In your windows directory open up system.ini
in the [386Enh] section add the following entries:

ConservativeSwapfileUsage=1
LocalLoadHigh=1

in the [Vcache] section add the following entries (you may want to play with these values depending on how much physical memory you have - I have 128mb):

chunksize=4096
minfilecache=20736
maxfilecache=49152

You should download and use the appropriate IDE drivers for your motherboard.

Make sure you are using the proper inf file for your monitor and that you have set the highest refresh rates for each resolution in your video card drivers (HZTool helps out a lot here).

run k6ewbe.exe -f from your autoexec.bat

and ps2rate (set to 200 - if you don't have a ps2 mouse get one!).

You should also grab a copy of cacheman which can automatically optimize most of your system if you are feeling a little nervous about manual changes.

Another great little helper utility is DirectControl - you can set the proper speed of your cd drives in this amongst other things.

Get yourself a copy of Ghost and use it once you have a stable system. Saves lots of headaches.

Hope this helps

Greg
